so we've seen flipper's thread discussing the jan 15th wt.
well in the article following the one discussed in that thread, you have discussion about turning in your friends.
apparently now they aren't content to turn in for "gross sin".

.
jw parents are put under enormous pressure if they want their kids to live.
if parents dont want their children killed they had better get their kids to spend 6 hours a day selling the watchtowers children book or else.
WTWizard, the quote was from a Watchtower from 70 years ago, things were a little different back then. The newer School brochures allude to the fact that proselytizing while at school or at work may not be allowed.

i just posted a short video with the soundbyte from the talk in the thread on kingdom control.
here's the link.
i don't know if i can embed it properly:.
I think we should all call the Charitable Planning Office and request a copy of the brochure. Better yet, see if they will send out multiple copies. I would also see if they would be willing to send it out via overnight delivery or FedEx, whichever is more expensive faster.

wts gb 2.0 is fully in place now with the death of barr.
out of the current gb members, who would be considered members of gb 3.0, or has that group started yet?
the jw's might as well face it......their armaggedon is not coming and their gb could go on and on.. .
If you look at the dates each of the GB was added, there is almost a 20 year gap between 1977 and 1994 where no new members were added. So I would say all those appointed up to 1977 would be 1.0 and those since 1994(i.e. all the current members) would be 2.0.

i was at a 2 day circuit assembly this weekend and i was surprised at how many times mention was made directly or indirectly reminding those in attendance (1,600) of the need to give $$$.
even in the soliloquies or skits they seemed to work in the need to give $$$.. it made me wonder if the society is having 'cash flow' problems and hence is desparate for cash.
over the years that i've attended conventions and assemblies the need to give $$$ has been subtle (imo), til now.
Thanks, Blondie that is my understanding of how it works too, each congregation forms a corporation that would be the owner of the Hall. Then there was the annual corporate meeting (usually held after the school and service meeting) where all baptised members of the congregation in attendance would all "vote" for whoever they told us to vote for.

In the end, the building is owned by the WTS, thanks to a cool trick that involves incorporating each congregation - which allows them to operate as a charitable organization in its own right, but with built in payments to the WTS (makes it sound like a franchise).
Can someone elaborate on this or corroborate it? I still have a hard time believing that somehow if a Kingdom Hall mortgage were to be paid off completely, that somehow the Watchtower would be the owner of the Hall. To me this sounds like an xJW urban legend.
I think their real M.O. is when a Hall is close to being paid off, telling the congregation its time for either a new Hall or an expensive remodel project. I have seen this happen in almost every Hall I have attended.

i was going through some boxes the other day and found the letter we received to use for reference's in looking for work after bethel.. we left bethel in 1994 a long time ago now it seems.
the letter was written by max larson.
i have not seen this letter for years and reading it this time it struck me how cold it really was.
LITS, there is a time and a place for everything. I think that's in the Bible some where.
I agree with Satanus, its a reference letter for job seeking, not a proselytizing tool. Actually I am impressed they were thoughtful enough to provide something like this, this is the first I have ever heard of it.
Now charging the Bethelites for A/C, that's astounding. Or telling them to apply for government assistance. Classy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/tobacco_smoking.
so if the practice of smoking is older than the bible, why wasn't it listed as a sin in the bible since jehovah's witnesses consider it a sin?
surely it was popular to do back then right?.
It wasn't mentioned in the Bible because at the time no one in the Middle East, Asia, Africe, or Europe had any idea there was such a thing as tobacco.

the good news of the kingdom!
is it an authorized work?.
did they make claim that they were appointed, as a body, as the faithful slave?
holy cow do you get paid by the word!?!?!

why does the wt ask jw's to wear their badges on their chest?
in the case of brothers it is not a problem but is it not embarassing for the sisters?
also if an attendant for some reason has to check out a sisters badge, it might appear that he is staring at.... escpecially considering that this is a religion regarded by many as quite prudish.. .
